Your still open to fan failure messages if the fans connected are in violation of Dell's fan detection parameters. Hmmm maybe someone will take some good pics of their latter gen xps's and I can run down what they are using for a fan controller. One would expect to be able to get fan speeds and some temp readings. The front fan on my gen 1 was simply a go/nogo switch input and had no tach signal output. I did a mbm5 pci/smbus dump and cross referenced it to the adm1027 spec sheets to find out what settings dell was using.

Maybe Trow or devnull can write a how to guide on how to replace those Nidecs with aftermarket fans... and not give us fan error messages... I know it may be a lot of work... but it sure would be amazingly helpful.
I'm a noob, so I'm still a little weary about doing it myself.

On your next boot up go to bios and set 'report keyboard errors' to NO. to drop the F1 required on startup.

Does anyone know how to wire 3pin fans to the 4pin mobo? Rumble's pictures dont work anymore. I know you have to splice something (ground?) but I am not sure. Help, please, I have the proprietary connectors and everything I just dont know how to wire stuff together.
I really hate pressing F1 every time.

Don't hookup the PWM wire, i.e. the fourth wire - it's the white one last I recall. That simple...
