Hello, Im a total newbie at this so please bare with me. I made my way here from the dell forums and i just bought a xps. Its primarily going to be used for college work(so my parents think), but I play games too believe it or not. Im really, really interested in the lit shield changes that were done. I don't know where to start, so please bare with me. Im a girl, and have little knowledge in computers, yet alone changing parts in a Dell pc. All of your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys,
Candy

Hello, I am just saying hi for my first post. As policy for many forums you have to say hi in an introduction post. I guess this might as well be an introduction thread. I have seen a lot of the members here on the dell forums and think that this is great. I bought a XPS Gen 3 system a few days ago and hope that it arrives soon! I dont know much about modifying the XPS system but it seems like there is a lot of information to go on here. I hope to post pictures when I get my new PC, and can't wait to see what it can do!

Thats actually my compare link, for my system.
Go to Project Manager on your Accont Page for Futuremark/3Dmark05, Make sure your Result is Published and Active. Then copy the Compare URL beneath your Submission.

Wait this is too wierd!! On the link I posted it shows the compare on my system and yours in 03. The link you posted is 05 but it looks like you compared my system to my system but I only recall posted one set of results!!!! Anyway I was just impressed that my score was comparable to yours as I can tell you are also a hardcore enthusiast. I am going to add my system description to my posts as a siggy and then you will know watt I am running. This is a really cool forum and thanx for all the welcomes everyone. And to all have a wondrous eternity. I think I got it this time: service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=205186

Hi everyone Not sure this is the right place for introducing the latest edition of my new toy: a GPS Gen 4 that just arrived today via UPS from dell but anyhow here is some of the config's main features:
Dell XPS Gen 4 3.4G 650 HT 1Gb DDR2 400GB ATA (Hitachi) GeForce 6800 Audigy 2 ZS DVD Rom 16X CD R/W Window XP MCE 2005 2005FPW (purchased seperately for $450)
I'm still in shock that I paid so little for this absolute gorgeuos baby from Dell via ESP (Employee Service Plan): $1214 (tax included+free shipping since I'm from richardson, TX). I've just upgraded this to replace the 4 mths old Dim 4700 that I've basically outgrown it. Priot to purchase this XPS I was tempting to build a gaming rig myself using latest AMD 64 FX series but after several weeks of checking prices from several on-line retail stores like NewEgg, Chief Value etc. I'd have spent at least close to $1500 to get all the basic hardware but then came along this oppurtunity one late afternoon last week clicked on my work web site to check out great deals from dell the went on to Dell web site and saw it and clicked on this baby.
I will also swap the viedo card ATI X800XL from my Dim 4700 to replace the 6800 (not sure thoughwhat to do with the 6800 yet, sell it?) Next week I will want to add the ATI HDTV Wonder for my video project. Down the road later I will add another 400GB drive for RAID 0 config. Will post some 3dmark05/3dmark03 when becomes available. Bye for now

Here's my first post to say hello, what I've got and what I would like to do. I have a Gen 1 XPS, at least I think its first Gen. I got it in May of '03. I have 2G DDR400 Pc3200 RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT O.C., its got a 3G, 800 FSB, with 512k L2 cache...now I am looking to upgrade processor...unfortunately I am not sure what I can max the CPU at. Maybe I need to just upgrade both M-board and Cpu to get speed and performance I want. Any suggestions on combo's that are at a decent price (preferable not to exceed $500). I am also looking at reducing the heat and noise from the fans. Especially since I am out of the warranty on my Dell. Well hope to see some good things (more good things) here!!
