congrats on the breakthrough, guys! Its really awesome to see something like CPU OC come to the XPS. Hopefully, a similar breakthrough will eventually surface.
TRow-- your sig is sweet, congrats on the OC, sir.

Heat run at 230fsb here with 16 of the "C:\Program Files\Motherboard Monitor 5\Heat up" programs running with an ambient temperature of 25c. I was manually adjusting the one fan trying to get it at around 2400 rpm....I managed to get close.

so, is there a way to keep the OC'd speeds after the CPU is shutdown? When booting up later on, i noticed that the speeds were back to normal.

Yes...but i wouldn't recommend it unless your 300% sure it's stable. On the possible corruption of hdd data I would recommend dumping and archiving the hdd's smart data and montoring the stats reported.

Your 3.2 uses a 16 multiplier....try just to stay with a 212.5 fsb (6% increase) and that will give you a 3.4 cpu speed. The 6% shouldn't be a major issue but you are running a larger onchip cpu cache.

I was cleaning the inside of my chassis and reconfiguring the fans yet again...hehe..and happened to notice my offset northbridge heatsink had shifted ( dropped it down to allow an 80 mm fan to slip between it and the heatsink ). I removed and reinstalled it after cleaning and applying a fresh coat of artic silver. I have the two rear nidecs set at 3000 rpm; the two 80mms on the heatsink (top blowing in and bottom blowing up) set at 3000ish rpms; and the 120mm set kitty corner at the top rear, where i have two chassis cutouts, blowing into the chassis; and have removed the lame stock 80mm while using it's motherboard connector to power both heatsink fans and monitoring the speed of one of them. My hdd is an IDE mounted in a vantec hdd cooler unit with the fan normally set to high. In this configuration I manage to keep the chassis at ambient plus 1 or 2 c ( ran 16 heatups as a temp run in 20c ambient and the cpu peaked at 36c ). As a sidenote, the dell 2 pipe heatsink still prefers that the xps chassis be placed on it's side.
I'll see if I can run issue free now at a 230fsb.

As of late Ive been experimenting with CPUFSB, a standalone version of the component of CPUCool. It uses the exact features for overclocking the XPS. Theres a chance this could be a work-around for SATA systems. Heres a link for a version Ive had a lot of success with and plan to use as my primary utility for the Danger Den mod. T.RoW

I replaced the ide hdd with a pair of sata hdds, added a second gig of memory, replaced the dell heatpipe heatsink with a cooler master hyper six monster, and replaced the 5200 invidia with an ati x800xt aiw. Oc'g is shot as it sits. The added gig of mem (cas 2.5) forced the memory fsb to 333. I intend to look into a bypass that and resolve the causes effecting the oc'.

trow can u host tha tfile again, cause i can't oc to 3.3ghz from 3.2 on my system.(satas) cant OC with satas. if u have IDE hard drives then your are able to OC. IF u have both like me, just disable it in the windows hardware manager and then OC. rumblephish has the same problem.

alright hold on, so i would connect my ide and have to run my operating system off ide? OR do i just need an ide drive to be in my system? yes, run your OS off the IDE Hard Drive and then disable the SATA drive in your windows manager. restart ur cpu. then OC. If u want to go back to ur regular speed just shut the computer down first. then turn it on again and enable the SATA drive. remember, when you disable your SATA drive, you cant enable it again while OC'd. or lockups may happen, or even data loss.

Does the cpufsb permanently change teh fsb or does it have to be running evrytime at start up? I have a raid 0 set up, is it possible to disbale raid in bios and re enable it? So i would set up an os on and ide trive, go to device manager, disable my raid 0 right? Then oc the machine, and boot into my other sata raid drive?

You first Set the Frequency, then you restart to adjust the clocks. If you dont restart, the new clocks are never set.
CPUFSB is the tool in CPUCool you use to overclock. CPUCool has a lot of features that conflict with MBM and the board sensors when monitoring. The only feature you need is CPUFSB, everything else is poorly written filler.

Okay i'm really confused( i know u think i'm a dumb ass by now) i HAVE to have an ide drive, right? Then i can use that cpucool u sent me right? Right now when i try to overlcok, my pc frrezes before i can restart( stops responding) 5 seconds after i click click use frequency 1 in cpu cool and click set new frequency, i click ok and then 5 second later , it all stops reponding.
