Any help would be appreciated. I bought my XPS in June '03. 5 days after my 1 year anniversary, I started getting Rear Fan Failure errors on start up. What should I be looking for. I opened the box and I see the fan moving. I am an IT guy so I have a good working knowledge of what I am doing but this one has me baffled. The only changes I have made to my system is I added a 200G Maxtor Drive but the problems were happening long before I installed that. I am at BIOS ver A03 running XP Pro

Sorry to hear about your issue, are you getting Fan errors for both R.Fans? What temps do you operate at?ambient/case/cpu,etc.. Have you considered aftermarket solutions? I would recommend getting MBMonitor, check your temps, and consider some slight modification of you current setup. Very odd that fans operate, could be fan startup speed related. Cruiser and others may have some offerings.

I've added, replaced etc other equipment, built my own PC's but never had a need to go beyond a regular stock fan. I am currently doing some professional Video processing which is taxing my system for sure. I do not have any data regarding current temps. My question should be, "where should I begin?"

For a simple test try just switching the plugs on the mobo and see if you get the same error message on a different fan. If so you know it's the fan. If you get it on the same fan you know it is probably something with the mobo...
