I have some ECC memory laying around that I would like to give to my friend who needs the extra memory. The problem is his computer does not support ECC. Will the memory still work in his system without any of the ECC benefits? Or will his system completely reject the memory?

ECC or Parity memory will usually work in a Non ECC or non-parity system. The extra parity bits are ignored. However, Non ECC memory will not work in a ECC system (unless parity checking is turned off in the BIOS, for the XPS this does NOT apply. If you use non-ECC memory in a ECC system, a parity error will be shown soon as the system boots up. Sorry for the delayed response T.RoW
