I have hit a serious brain fart. I want to add an additional IDE hard drive to my XPS Gen 2 for additional storage transfer.
When I run IDE cable to board the system recognizes it as CD/DVD Drive. How do I get system to recognize it or does my extra hard drive have to be SATA only?
Any Info much appreciated!

Is the HDD on the same IDE channel as a Optical Drive?
Is the Jumper set to Cable Select on the HDD you wish to install?
If you can give me a pic, or description of your HDD and Optical setup, and which IDE / SATA channels are Boot, Storage etc....I can give you better suggestions.
The Great thing about Win XP is the it should recognize the drive, read/write to it. Double check your Bios to make sure everythings in order for the IDE Channels.

Jumper cable is set to CS. I am running single IDE cable from hard drive to board. My dvd/cd-rw & dvd/dvd-rw optical units are on the same IDE cable to the board.
Bios settings: Sata Raid: On Primary Master: Auto Select Primary Slave: Auto Select Secondary Master: CD-ROM Secondary Slave: CD-ROM IDE Drive UDMA: On
XP recognizes it as a DVD Drive which of course you can't access.

Try setting the the Jumper on the HDD to Master. And setting the Primary Master Bios option accordingly. Is the Driver ATA 100/133? Sometimes certain, older ATA 33 or 66 Drives will not be recognized by WinXP. What is the Make/Model # of this drive? T.RoW
