O.K. guys I need some help. My 2nd video card went out. My first one went out a few months ago and Dell replaced it. I was gaming and instantly it went to "Monitor working fine, check PC connections, etc."
I tossed the card in another rig and sure enough, It is not working.
I don't overclock and as you know my rig runs cool. I use ATI silencer on the card as well.
Has anybody heard of this happening before? Possible bad AGP slot? Power connection to card? Another bad card?
Wanted to get a little feedback before I call Dell.

I think it is a bad agp connector. I would see if dell can replace the card and mobo to be safe.

Be very attentive to airflows around the vid card. You can get expelled vid card heat to flow back over the card.....nada good.

The set up I have is: ATI Silencer 3 on the video card. (I recently cleaned dust bunnies out and put fresh AS5 on it.)
The front fan is 120mm. The rear fans are 92mm.
There is good clean air flow.
I don't think it's the AGP since I am using another vid card in the rig and I am not experiencing any problems yet. I have also gamed with it to.
Would the power supply to card maybe cause it? The temp card I am using doesn't require extra power so I can't test it.
I am more inclined to think maybe another bad card sent from Dell since the replacment card was a refurb.
Just dawned on me that both cards that fried happened after installing the Silencer 3. Hmmmm.....I wonder if that has anything to do with it???

Check for airflow going against the vid card cooling solution exhaust or working against the air intake on it. Dust bunnies in there would definetly be an issue. Also make sure the exhaust from the powers supply isn't feeding into it or the chassis! A removed card cover can let that happen!

Just dawned on me that both cards that fried happened after installing the Silencer 3. Hmmmm.....I wonder if that has anything to do with it??? You didnt notice any corruption or radical temperature changes with gaming or enviroment? What time frame from installation to failure? 1 Day, 1 week? Do the Ram modules have Ramsinks? Did the Rev3 make good, visible contact with the Core? Did you install the Fan Connector on the Rev3 to the correct Pins*? T.RoW

This is the card I just received from Dell about 2 months ago. No temp changes at all. 56-58 degrees idle with 65-68 load. They went up prior a few degrees and I pulled the ATI Silencer out, cleaned out the dust bunnies, and re-applied AS5 on all ramsinks and core. The fan connector installed to the right pins. I checked around the web for more information and I saw some posts on the ATI Silencer maybe causing problems.
I contacted Dell and once again they are sending another replacment card out. This time I am going to leave the ATI Silencer off it and see what happens. I don't think it's the mobo and agp slot as I put another card in there and it's been running for 36+ hours running everything from graphic apps to gaming apps. If it goes out again than maybe it's the PSU or Mobo.

Does the "test" video card require 4-pin molex for power? Though it really wont carry much weight because if its PSU related, other components would show some sign of symptoms....ie Locks, Restarts, etc...
You cant rule out the AGP Slot, because 36 hours testing vs. 2 months of usage....and 2 different calibers of Weaponry. I have personally dealt with Bad PCI slots that have claimed hardware due to malfunction. But it was immediate, not over a period of time, and mulitple conditions.
You also must consider the origin and "history" of the particular replacement part youve been and will be sent.

I agree with your points. The temp card is an Nvidia FX 5200 AGP card that doesn't require power.
As far as the psu, I have not had any other problems like odd shut downs, restarts, etc. I have not had problems with other devices such as the optical drives or even fans. I have not experienced any wierd power spikes or anything odd that I can think of.
I should get the replacement card in a day or so and I will leave the stock fan on and start there. If it happens again I can then try and figure out if it's mobo related or psu related.
If it is mobo related, can you pull it out and send it in or does Dell require you sending your whole rig in? I hate the thought of pulling out all the modded stuff and re-installing all the green shrouds and components of death!
