Hey all, I haven't been on these forums in a while. I hope you have all been doing well. I've returned in need of an answer. My BFG GeForce 6800GT AGP recently died and I can't RMA it, because I don't have the original receipt and overheating caused by The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion voided my warranty. Luckily, I found this really good deal on the 7800GS AGP on Ebay and my friend is going to help me buy it. However, I've heard that the 7800GS AGP requires at least 20 amps on the 12 volt rail (I'm getting the XFX one but BFG states the power requirements: www.bfgtech.com/7800GS_256.html). Does the XPS Gen 2 meet this requirement? I've checked the manual and the actual power supply, but there are no specifications listed. I appreciate all and any help. Thanks. ~Kevin

Thanks for the info, crusier. I'm feeling lazy right now, so I'll check the specifications on my Gen 2 power supply later... But the Gen 1 specs say that the combined total output for the 12 volt rail (I guess its a dual 12 volt rail) is 32 amps! Supposing that Dell kept the same specs or improved on them for the Gen 2, I guess I'm safe. Ironically, the brand new 7800GS I saw on Ebay jumped from $37 to almost $300. So unless I find a better deal, I'm just going to buy a 6800GT again. Thanks again.

That would be volts. yellow 12vdc black ground black ground red 5vdc You can check the manuals docs.us.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dimxps/en/index.htmfor other information.....I think that one is gen2. Amps requires an inline passthru test connector of a low known resistance value....because of high current the power (watt) rating of the resistor gets huge...an alternative method measures current indirectly by measuring the magnetic field generated around the wire.

OH..I checked the voltage awhile back and its good. I thought maybe a different pinout combo would give amp readings. I did not wanna go pokin around where I should not be. Thanks
