Okay I installed windows on a spare hdd with my main rig. Went smoothly, now everytime I Boot up I get the message "Please choose which OS to run". Its like windows is on both my runnin hdd's but its not. I disconnected both hdd's so I could format the spare hdd. I even thought I may have put the wrong hdd back in,not the case. I reset my cmos and it still happens. I'm at a loss, seems so simple but I'm losin hair over this one. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your Boot.cfg needs to be modified. System Properties->Advanced->Startup & Recovery [Settings]->System Startup.
Edit the Boot.cfg and remove the non-Default drive string.
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition (boot windows)" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
The 2nd String for Partition 2 should only be deleted once you confirm that you DO not want to use this OS to boot with. You can re-add the string if you plan on using that HDD to Boot from.

By not editing the Boot.cfg, you leave the partition information which will cause future conflicts if you decide to dual boot with differing OS's then the string info.
Out of sight, out of mind just doesn't fly well with me. Never has.

the partition info will be there either way.. all you do by editing the boot.cfg is make it so it doesn't recognize that partition as a choice anymore, so thats just making it "out of sight out of mind" doing it the way i explain just leaves it so you don't delete something wrong

Why would you leave the string? Editing the boot.cfg is a pretty standard procedure, especially for dual booting in pre-2000 OS's. Accidents happen, but knowledge is power.

he never said he removed the partition so i was saying removing the string without the partition was silly

Hey guys I love it when techies get going. There is nor was there ever a second partition on the drive. I checked and double checked.
