I was wondering if I could take the hard drive from a dell xps gen 2 and put it in a different case with different hardware and ot would biit up windows properly or if i could do a full restore using the dell os disk for the new comp.
I didn't know where to put this btw.
Thanks for your time.

it depends, are you going to a dell machine?
if not do you have a retail copy of XP installed on that HD or only the DELL OS.
if you have the dell XP installed you can ONLY use it with DELL smachines. If you have a retail copy you might be able to skate by and not have to reformat. you also MAY be able to do a slip install with an XP upgrade disk and get past reformating. However regardless u'll probably have to re activate XP no matter what.
bottom lines, you can only use the DELL os with a DELL system.
hope that helps

I'm using a dell os disk for the os so I assume it's a dell os. I need to plant it in a different comp then a dell as my gen 2's processor gave out. Is there a way to use the key on the dell for the new comp?
thanks for your time.
