I was wondering which cpus can be put into a Dell XPS Gen 2. I know it has to be a 478 pin Pentium 4.
Thanks for your time.

I upgraded from the stock (Pentium 4) 3.2GHz HT to a 3.4GHz HT. I think it's the limit for the machine.

There were a couple of people that went thru the same thing, right around the time when the Prescott core was out, and the Extreme Edition.
Basically, they cost of upgrading vs 200hmz increase wasnt worth it price performance wise. Especially when going from 3.2 - 3.4 regardless of core, or Cache sizes.

The only reason I'm asking about a replacement is because dell didn't tell me how to take off the heatsink and when I tried to put it back on it bent the cpu pins.
thanks for your time.

I was wondering if these would work and if they'ld have the same or more power than the 3.2 ghz northwood did and how the temps would be. Before the cpu pins got bent it was indling at 70C and loaded at 90C. I'ld also like to know what config the cpu shroud fans should be in as in 1 out 1 in etc etc. Intel Pentium 4 3.0E Prescott 3.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket 478 89W Single-Core Processor www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116027or Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Northwood 2.8GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket 478 68.4W Single-Core Processor www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116215I'ld prefer something faster as long as it was cheap enough. I've already got to replace the ram and drive rails and the dvd rom. Thanks for your time.
