Hey, I'm new here and my 9800 XT runs pretty hot and leads to lockups when I'm playing games.
T Row gave me some help on the Dell forums, and I want to know how can I get some ventilation in my XPS Gen 2.

If you cards locking up during a gaming session, your probably going to need to completely modify your cooling situation. Your going to have to spend some money on getting new fans. I would purchase 2 New fans to start with and possibly a slot blower(Optional). Go to this site and look at Stage 1,2,3 Modifcations. www.umsl.edu/~natc7d/cooling.htm======================================= 1. Get Motherboard Monitor 5.3.7.0www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311**Instructions for Install/ Config Problems can be found on this thread. xpsmodz.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=overcool&action=display&thread=1086760402======================================= 2. Higher CFM Intake Fan: 92mm ThermalTake Smartfan www.pctoyland.com/prod_175.htm**All the Supplies you will need will come with the Fan, Power it from the Power Supply(PSU.) ======================================= 3.Heatsink Fan Your Choice of either 80 or 92mm Fan Size Ranging from 32CFM or Up. A popular choice or some User's on this forum is: Thermaltakes UFO#2 www.pctoyland.com/prod_448.htm\or for $4 bucks www.pctoyland.com/ProductImages/PCT-80UV-BLU.jpg[/img] www.pctoyland.com/prod_54.htm**This will take some creative modding, but you'll find several ways to install this mod on my site, and on the Photography Section of this Forum. Cableties or Wire works great if you have a heatsink like this one: ======================================= There's a number of ways you can lower your temps, but it will require an initial investment of around $20-50 bucks depending on how cool you want to get. If you need some more detailed install info check out the website below for better illustrations, you will also get some good install ideas from Studying the Photography Section of this Forum too. Mod Install Site:www.umsl.edu/~natc7d/cooling.htmPhotograpy Section of this Forum: xpsmodz.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=pimprigsThese modifications are not an option for gaming, its a necessity...one were ALL more than happy to walk you thru. The Extreme Temps of the XPS have frustrated a LOT of people. And these same high temps will cause your system to have a LOT of problems in the future if they go overlooked. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
