Hey guys, I just ordered some ram heatspreaders to use because I have increased the airflow through my case and think it will help keep things cooler (in both functionality and aestetics) but I don't want to have the memory plates get stuck on the ram forever. Does thermal tape come off because I know thats what they use? If not, is there an alternative? (they were on sale for like 2 bucks so I am not worried about wasting money, heh)

The tape can be removed with care, and shouldnt be a problem. If you have a spare Thermal diode, that would a sweet test bed!

If you are talking about thermal diodes coming from my fan controller, then yes, I do have another one that I can compare temps with. Im glad do know that I can get that tape off....

Which ones are you guys looking at - I'd like to add ramsinks or heatspreaders to my 2 - 512Mb sticks if it wouldn't interfere with the extra memory sockets. I found these; www.sidewindercomputers.com/vacoiche.htmlbut don't know if they will work on DDR2 PC 4200 RAM yet.

i don't think they'll work with pc-4200 ddr2 ram i found some heat spreaders the other day that did and they were by a good brand i thought about jumping on them but then realized it would be better to get a fan controller before that... you could always use www.xoxide.com/supertalent.html however thats not heat spreaders but just an idea

This site has some interesting things to say about ramsinks vs. heat spreaders - www.tweakmonster.com/products/ramcoolerpage.htmI found some Thermaltake #A1933 ramsinks for cheap ($5.00) and stuck them on my 2-512Mhz memory cards. The 3M double stick tape holds tight, but you can use a hairdryer to loosen them up to take off. Even though they weren't the square BGA size, they work just fine. The TT ramsinks are too thick to use with 4 memory sticks installed, but for me it was a cheap & easy way to add a little bit more cooling.

I have those exact ones except from pctoys.com, I got them for like 3 bucks each set. They are blue, too. Seem to work great.
