www.coolerguys.com/casemodkit.htmlRight now i have both nidecs on exhaust... all the shrouds off ...120mm fan in the front... 92mm fan on the heatsink... 92mm(i think they're 92mm maybe 80 they're in there now) fan below the hd's. and the video card fan remounted directly over top of the video card on the side panel... dropped video temps from about 61 or so to about 44 on the GPU it's beautiful... and hd temps from 45 to high 20's low 30s noise is a little loud but i'm looking to preserve my equipment for a while... the fans i installed aren't anything special... just some fans i had from an old dell... and an old micron... 120mm i bought pushes about 80cfm... and it was 12 bux so it wasnt too bad of a deal. I was wondering what everyone thinks of that little bundle.. even if it's not A+ quality normally a window and the tool runs about 15 bux...so i figured it would be an idea... i'm thinking about putting in a side window and a tribal skull window in the top www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=120199&Product_Code=PX82200UBand possibly modding the front door and puttin a window and some leds i think it would all look nuts when i'm done ... i'f probably have to do some complex stuff but i think it would be awesome and well worth it.... also can anyone recommend a good fan controller... the silverstone one looks really good or any quiet/ good CFM fans to replace the dell one on the deatsink and the micron (sleeve) fan under the hd's the micron one runs pretty loud due to it being a sleeve... if someone tells me how to attach a picture i can add pics of my system b 4 i added the 120mm fan and the fan under the hd... right now it's mostly mounted with duct tape.. soon to be mounted with therm mounting tape to reduce noise and so i don't have to worry about heat gettin to the stuff.... if anyone has any suggestions for me i'll e willing to try alot of stuff over the summer when i have time... I actually bought an 8400 and then found a guy on ebay who was selling all the xps crap (case, fans, mobo, heatsink, psu ) and i was looking to upgrade the PSU anyway so i jumped on it considering it's all the stuff i would have had to upgrade anyway due to dells proprietary stuff..

the fan on the heatsink is blowing through the fins ... the fan in the last pic is mounted on the door of the case directly over the video card.. basically where it was with the shroud on just movied to be slightly over top of it more... no i haven't cut a hole yet.... i figured i'll wait till i install a window then put a fan hole in there.. so it's not doing as much as it could but working very well none the less...
yes i have been monitoring the temps....
after reversing the rear nidecs and mounting the side fan onto the side of the case my HD temps were 45-41 now with all the mods they are 33-28 usually they run at about 31/30-26/27 but i've been doing alot of rendering today so thems the breaks...( i have a fan mounted below the HD that has the 3d program on it hense the lower temp in one
video card temps were about 61/55 before any mods down to about 56/48 after 1st mods now down to 43/39
so i've dropped all temps that i can currently monitor by more than 10* C each i'm curious to to see the CPU temp and ambient temp but i haven't gotten around to purchasing a fan controller and stuff yet. ( which would be handy cuz the old fans i'm using in there are somewhat loud) . can't be hear when gaming or doing something else only noticable when u're laying down to sleep because there is a soft humm no big deal to me ... i'm going for cooling not silence...
I really need to sleeve all the wires and get rounded cables though but so far i've spent about 20 bux on my mods ( front fan + converters for other fans) so i'm not complaining... i figure that'll help the cooling out alot too but i just can't find stuff in the stores... don't have a CC to order online unless i go through the parent and i'd rather not do that.

the heatsink fan has a reverse spin... it shows direction of spin and flow on the fan :-D... no worries its understandable as far as the read fans i just felt to which way seemed to give better airflow i can feel air coming out of the back of my case... so i dunno

Arrows.....theys got little arrows, usually placed around the outer portion of the fan. They point out the direction of rotation and airflow! Wanna beeg pic of them ?....hehe
Hmmmsss...my eyes must be going fast...they just can't seem to 'FOCUS' anymore.

i'm thinking about adding an exhaust fan where the empty PCI slots are... to pull cool air over the video card... and pull hot air off it... think thats a good idea... also i'm looking to replace the fans with better ones.. any suggestions?

heh, I wonder what your PSU is doing? I Mean, its 480+ watts but you have like 12 fans in that thing already. I would just make sure you have AS5 on everything you can, heatsink stuff up like the ram, make sure your cables are outta the way, diagram your airflow as efficiently as possible and let that be that. It will allow you also to concentrate on your window. Frankly, I think you CAN have too many fans. I am just wondering what your 12V rail voltages look like... (thats the one with the fans, right?)

i'm thinking about getting www.zalman.co.kr/images/pr/ad/cebit_67.jpg www.zalman.co.kr/images/pr/ad/cebit_62.jpgwww.zalman.co.kr/images/pr/ad/cebit_63.jpg or that ... thinking the fatality combo (first one maybe the best idea) I need ideas for what rounded cables are good... and what fans would be good to replace the old ones .... I applied AS5 to the HS when i added te fan so it should be good... i'm taking a poll what fan/ tempurater reader do you think is the best? just post u're response.. it'll help me decide i wish i could tell you what my 12V rating looks like... my temps have hit a high since i did the mods.. however it's 85 outside and probably no cooler inside.. hd's are 37/32 video card is 52/46 question... does anyone have a problem where they crash to a blue screen if they leave ATI tool running for a while?

There are two 12vdc rails (A & B) rated per the label on my gen1 xps. I laid out the distribution (the A & B of it) elsewhere on the forum here. That label is on the top of the power supply under the upper chassis. See the Dell documenttion on how to go about getting to it. There is also a scan label affixed to the bottom of the power supply.

A good digital multimeter is the only way your going to get accurate voltage readings. They make some that interface to the puter for handling the readings. The environment monitoring chips in puters are scaled to read a source voltage in as a range they can handle (say bout 2.5 volts). Between that and digital nature of the analog/digital converters, the adm1027 here steps a varying amount ( 11.92 11.86 11.82 etc ). They also do multiple samples and averaging. If the voltage is right at a threshold it will give you an indication of the voltage fluctuating (rippling) when in fact it's not.

go with the hs with 14 heat pipes, that thing could cool anything down with ease. but you might have to wait awhile for it to come out. heat pipes move the heat away from the cpu much quicker than fins.

img247.echo.cx/img247/461/dscn13861dy.jpgthats the aerogate 3, LED display, 4 fans and sensors, comes with fan cables (3 pin) and the thermal sensors. nice flush fit, so the door can still be closed. got mine at comp usa for $30, im sure theres better deals, check out newegg.com, tigerdirect.com. munski showed me sidewindercomputers.com, which usually beats evryone's prices.
