Ok just bit the bullet today and ordered a whole wack of stuff and fnas to start the first part of my mods for my xps...
heres what i got
Thermaltake ufo fan for cooling the cpu hs
2 blue led 92mm 50cfm fans for rear exaust
1 multicolor led (changes colors) 65.2 cfm fan 92mm for front intake
1 18" uv rounded floppy cable
1 18" dual blue uv ide cable
1 24" duel blue uv ide cable
1 blue ev 35 cfm fantek pci dual fan cooler (NOT a slot cooler that exausts, but dual fan pci card to increase circulation, which is a bonus, i just want it becuase its a dam bright uv light! lol
lots of uv blue cable wrap (plastic cut tube type)
plans:
get new fans in, repace ide cables, tube up all the wires in case, install pci dual fan
then later when more cash permits, i plan to install a LARGE window (about 80% size of side), gonna get the battlefield 1942 logo etched on it ,
also considering removing the front dell metal plate, and having a custom one cut out of frosted semi-tranparent plastic and installed, so it "glows" from the multi-color fan behind the grill...
also for a final stage, am going to buy a bunch of this verry cool "light tape" i saw.. its a special tape that lights up to 200% brigter then any led, and it gen's no heat, is as thick as a postcard, and can stick it anywhere.. im planning to outline the motherboard with the tape, as well as all the internal corners of the case..
if it works the way i want, this is going to be one hell of a mod looks wise when it's all done..
im getitng the fans, round cables and cable sleeves in a few days, will post some pics of the end result... and also let you know how the new fan's do for my cooling situation
im getting excited... oh and i almost had a HEART ATTACK... thanks once again to dells lame quallity components...
when i was lookin around inside the system to plan out some stuff... i went to disconnect the ribbon cable that goes from the mb to the front pannel, well when i very gentry went to disconnect the cable from the motherboard, the dam thing BROKE, so the connected stayed in the socket, and the little clamp on top of the connecter popped off, and the ribbin cable itself broke out of the connecter... seeing as i now had no way to turn on the computer (since that was also controlled from this ribbon cable... i was just slighty in panic mode... lucly with a little time, a few beers and some patience, i was able to finally get the rest of the cable's connector out of it's socket on the motherboard, and with real steady hands (amazing how beer helps).. was able to carefully re-attach the connecter to the ribbon cable, with the tinly little pins all going back in their holes on the ribbon cable... problem solved... (about a 12 pack later)
anyways just a heads up, to be extra carefull if you have to remove that cable for whatever reasons, mine may have just been faulty, but be carefull non the less.. your up sht's creek if anything happens to it!
anyways thats it for now.. alot of typing... must..gett..beer....now.....
Mmm Beer
