I too got an arctic silencer 4 for my Gen 3 system. I had to remove a good deal of the aluminum backing away in order for the card to have enough room inside. Used arctic silver 5 on the gpu, pentium 4 cpu, motherboard chipset, and the 8 memory chips on the vga and still had some left over.
Ati X800 XT core/memory speeds: 500/500
Gpu core Temps with stock cooling: min / max 55C/ 74 - 84C
with arctic silver 5 and silencer 4: 44C/ 56 - 59C
Haven't fooled around with overclocking since I don't really have a need for it yet.

My idle temps are @40c and the highest temp I noticed using 3dMark05 was @67c. Those temps seem a little high, what are your ambient room temps? Beefier Intake fan directed toward the VGA will work wonders. T.RoW

dunno if anyones reading this one anymore but the reason it's at 500/500 is not cuz it's dell OEM it's cuz it's just eh XT... Not the XT PE which boasts the speeds you speak of (520/560) however i have the stock ati cooler on my X800XT from dell and i have it oced to 554/582 and it'll only get up to 60*C when my room is at 85*F which happened the other day... i'm thikning about seeing if i can push it some more or maybe get the silencer and them break the 600 mark which is supposedly possible... i have no problems with overheating i ran 3dmark 03 3 times in a row and my temp after i was done was 63 and it was about 82 in my room when i ran the tests.. my lowest score was a 12893 on the last run.. first one was over 13000 :-D

Thats the beauty of living in Wisko. Its like 35 degrees here and I can just crack a window and OC the crap outta this thing. But in all reality, my games run fine at stock speeds and my temps are inthe 30s even if my windows are shut so I dont really see a neeed to OC now....
I think your situation should be the same, just enjoy the X800 while its still on the top of the heap =D

How quiet is the silencer compare to stock fans and can you still control the fan speed with silencer?

You will notice a difference in dB, especially when the card is under Load conditions. All of which is subjective to your current ambient dB levels under load(Factory Fans, HDD spin,etc...)
There isnt a switch for Hi/Low like the old Rev3's. But ATi Tool has a feature that allows you to adjust the fan speed if you wanted to run 100% Fixed, or Dynamic.
The Silencer is well worth the mod.

dunno if anyones reading this one anymore but the reason it's at 500/500 is not cuz it's dell OEM it's cuz it's just eh XT Have you tried any of the guides for flashing to XTPE? What speed ram chips are on your Card? 1.6 or 2.0ns? If you have Samsung 1.6ns chips, then chances are you can flash it to XTPE bios. The safe thing is you can always flash back to your original.
