W00t, so on friday I got my new equipment in and it was time for some serious cleaning up of the ole' gen3. In the box of goodies, I got some heat spreaders for my memory, a 120mm vantec stealth fan, some of those dandy PCI/memory slot covers and finally (the grand finale) a VGA silencer.
Today I got them all hooked up and I have to say my ram feels so much more solid with these coolers on. Even though I have ddr2, and they are supposed to run at a lower voltage and cooler, I figured that the aestetics were reason enough. Also, with the increased airflow coming from the front via the 120mm fan, there should be more air passing over the ramsinks and it should help a bit. Now if your wondering why I put ANOTHER fan in my computer, realize that I took out the front 80mm fan and opted for this quieter, larger model. The PCI and memory covers are cool, too, and help a bit with the blue theme I already have going in my case (though they took a bit of modding to fit into the ddr2 slots). Finally, came the VGA silencer, which also took some modding. With it came temperatures that dropped significantly. It is just amazing. I also took the time to reapply Arctic silver on the CPU (because when dell came to fix my computer, they just slapped a new processor in without putting ANY thermal paste on and I was not here to correct their error) and took the crappy thermal pad off the northbridge and AS5'd it as well. Overall, my system is a bit quieter but a whole lot cooler. I am quite excited now about using my newly modded machine.
As for my site, my free host went down and I will have to find a new one in association with adding these new mods to the site.
