I'm wondering if anyone is willing to sell (or give away ) their old heatpiped heatsink for my Gen 1 XPS? I ended up with the non-heatpiped version just like the one in this pic from Cruiser's post in the Zalman install thread. I've considered the Zalman upgrade but the whole retension mechanism situation scares me a bit. Please contact me (or post a reply) if you are interested in selling (or donating) your old heatpiped heatsink. Thank you, Drivie

I Think that one's about $19.95 US from Dell (the heatpiped one). I could have shipped you my olde one but I gave it to my son for a chopshop fit to his AMD. It didn't work out and I chopshopped it a bit more to fit the PIII system I have here.

LOL! Thanks for the info Cruiser. You wouldn't happen to know what the Dell part number is for that heatsink would you?
Hope you don't mind that I borrowed the link to your pic to illustrate my post.

From my invoice, the Dell part number is 9Y212 for a gx270 system. I found that massive heatsink I put on the system to be a bit more trouble to install, but far superior to the Dell heatsink. That hunk of aluminum heatsink you have is next to useless!

I know this thread is a little old, but i'm in the process up upgrading my XPS Gen 1 with a new 3.2 Ghz Northwood, and I just want to double check that the heatsink Dell P/N 9Y212 will work with the original heatsink bracket for the big old "tin can" pictured above? I already have an Intel box cooler included with my new processer and it won't fit unless I remove the motherboard and replace the current bracket. I'm also open to other heatsink options that "should" work such as these few on newegg.com www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835185114www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835166055

Yes it fits right in. Another option you might look into can be found at www.poweredgeforums.com/showthread.php?t=2094Going with any third party heatsink will require changing the heatsink retention bracket out. Some will come with the necesary parts included, such was the case here when going with the hyper-six cooler, tho I did have to flex the motherboard a bit when adding the reverse side reinforcement. Things are never olde. They just fall into disuse.

Great, I might as well keep things simple. The problem is trying to find one. Dell does no sell it anymore, and I don't know who makes them or if its sold under another name. If a link could be provided I would be most grateful!

You might check on some of the posts in the classifieds section of the forum, query the various users here and check at ebay. There may even be a for sale section in the url I posted earlier. Someone posted this link for Dell parts www.acsparts.com/Dell-parts.htmThat hunk of aluminum wasn't enough for a 2.8 P4.
