Picked one of these up and threw it on the HD. Managed to bring the HD temps down a good 10 degrees.

Most SATAs have temp sensors now. Yeah, I was wondering about that, if it works for you I might pick one up. They are only like 6 bucks.

My Gen5 can display HD temperature. Just a question, where do you hook up the power for the fans? I haven't found any spare 5v or 12v connector in my computer, or did I not look harder?

The adaptor can go in-between connectors, so I just plugged it into one of my optical drives. You can kinda see it in this pic...

Allow me to borrow your picture for one of my questions: Note the thing I circled in yellow. I noticed that when you close the chassis, it just stands next to the front vent, so I removed it. Any idea what it does and what it is for?

Any idea what it does and what it is for? With my Gen 2, there is a fan attached to that bracket that sucks air in from the front metal badge area.. Maybe they took it out with other generations.

It's a dual purpose holder for an 80mm card cooler fan in early gens and also serves as a card guide for olde full length cards. and the plastic it connects to acts as a wiring router guard. There are always reasons things are there. hehe
