I have to say that my XPS Gen 5 is a screaming beast that is driving me nuts Can any of you folks advice in the most efficient way to get this beast to shut the f... up Ideally I would have liked to watercool it, however it seems to be more work and altering of it than I want. I'm suprised that it seems like the fans is blowing at full speed all the time, I would have expected it to have some noice reduction installed from the factory! Just looking for the best way to get a silent computer. Regards, TEK

I think they had some bad heatsinks about that gen that caused the fans to run at excessive speeds. If it's under warranty or service you can try giving tech support a call. It's likely they'll just swap the heatsink and perhaps the fans out. You failed to mention the room temperature it's running in and that really effects the xps cooling systems.

It seems to always be running at the same speed (max), and to make very mutch noise. More nois than any other computer I have ever had.
The room is between 19 and 25 degrees (normally 20-22)
Does this mean that it's not supposed to be noicy at normal operation?

The dell puters seem to be designed to run whisper quiet at around the 20C environment temperature. Then let the noise limits go out the door on higher temps and settle for near maximum temperatures for the components. In short, make that call.
