Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum but have been messing about with PC's for years.
I have tons of software on my HD and have been software OC'ing my system for a while.
The questions I need answering and so far have drawn a blank on are as follows and I would appreciate some help from one of the pro guys who has been OC'ing stuff for a while and knows his sh*t.
Firstly I can OC my Geforce 6800 to 434/840 beforce it starts to artifact and run it at 425/800 without any graphical glitches at all. This is with stock cooling and 1 card exhaust fan 2 slots down from it.
Ambient temps range from 33 to 46 degrees max, and an average of 49 degrees at idle for the core, up to a max of about 82 degrees when running ati tool 3D for a while, to give it some hammering.
So here goes! Firstly why is the hynix 2.8 memory which is rated by them as 700mhz underclocked to 600mhz initially? Is there a voltage reason etc that I should be aware of? So is it safe to run it at 700 mhz as technically this isnt even overclocking it?
And finally what is a typical temp for a geforce 6800 stock cooled card? No site has this info, even guru3D.com doesn't give temp specifics. Is 82 C perfectly fine seen as the cut off in the control panel says 125 C for cutout. And what is a standard idle temp for this card at a reasonable room temperature, no answers from eskimos saying -25 C please.
I tend to think I am pretty handy with a PC but this info has me stumped. I could be running my card into the ground, or be perfectly fine and have no way of knowing.
Many thanks
Sammael
