Hey guys, I just upgraded from a Vanilla 6800 to a 7900GT and then vmodded it to a 7900gtx. I've noticed that I'm not seeing near the improvement in performance I was expecting, and figure it's either the crappy ddr2 in this rig or I'm cpu bound (3.2Ghz prescott)
So my question is, will a new motherboard screw into the xps case, I'd like to try ocing this processor to see if that makes a difference.

I haven't tried however glendor has installed a AMD motherboard into the xps case... as a warning though you'll probably have to do some cutting to the case.
so it's more than likely possible it's just a matter of what you wanna do to your case. However, regardless going from a 6800 vanilla to a 7900GT should have been a significant increase regardless. Even if you are cpu bound and have crappy ram.
what are you running with the new card? because it could very well be a game that favors ATI cards or it's cpu limited like far cry however with that said, when i bought a new mobo I've seen an increase in performance so.
good luck, and overclocking you have to be carefull of, you have to make sure your cooling is superb my recommendation would be to get the zalman 9500 for cooling

Mostly oblivion, also my 3dmark 05/06 scores did not go up like they should have (I know its not a game but it's a good tool to use to see if everything is running ok.

hmm did you increase any settings on oblivion because as far as I'm aware that game is severely graphics cards limited. as for the 3d mark scores yes that could be your ram partially, but more than likely not
