The Poweredge 700 is very similair to the XPS. Has anyone tried loading Openmanage on their machine to monitor temps etc?

It comes free if you order a copy of the server. The fee comes in if you order subscriptions to it. Subscriptions get you the latest drivers/firmware/etc for that model. I could probably scare up an ISO of the CD if anyone wants to try it out. I don't have my gen 3 yet...still on order...

I could set up an FTP for people to download from, but be warned that I dont have a 4mbit connection or anything, so speeds wouldn't be that nice.

It seems that, without using a hardware solution like a fan controller/temp sensor, the XPS gen3 cant be monitored. Do you think that Intel just didn't put sensors on this chipset or what?

They have sensors that dictate fan speeds, which is controlled by preset parameters in the "locked" bios. These same sensor's hypothectically, have to detect Temperature value in order to adjust the fans to cool with in these same valued parameters.
Though this seems like a logical answer(to some), we are talking about Dell. MBm as stated is not supported by Dell, but if I had a program that uncovered design flaws in a company's product, I wouldn't expect them to support me either.

I was looking through my Gen3 cd's the other day and saw that my computer came preinstalled with OpenManage Client Instrumentation (OMCI). I was wondering if anyone had tried OpenManage IT Assistant to try to manager their computer?
I don't know much about the Openmanage product line... maybe it's a different product that will run on any computer???
Thanks,
Adam
