Hey all,
I recently noticed a noise coming from my X800 XT fan. Normally I have so much noise in my room I can't hear anything at all from my XPS. (3 computers, A/C fan, air purifier, mini-fridge etc)
I had everything turned off the other day except my XPS and noticed a faint rattling noise. I thought it might be one of the fans that I added so I removed those first, and the noise was still there. I stopped the fan on the video card and the noise went away.
I emailed tech support today, gonna try to get it replaced. Anyone know what could have caused it or had a similar problem?

I have not had a problem like that, did you take the card out and make sure there weren't any dustbunnies in the card or anything? It would be a shame to have a deal with the rigammaroll of a replacement if it wasn't necessary.
Do you think it might have adversely affected the cooling?

Hmm, I haven't had the computer for all that long, so I wouldn't think dust would be a problem yet. After ~30 min or so of UT2k4, ATI Tool claims the video card temp to be 75 degrees C, which has been the norm for my card since I got it.
Although the noise does seem to come and go as it pleases, weather it's under load or not.

I would request they send a new one, warranty alone "warrants" that. Just a thought.

I did not have this problem with my XT. Although, I didn't keep the OEM fan on long enough to find out. If you are looking for cooler temps you may want to look into getting an ATI Silencer 4. Myself and other members of this forum have drastically cut down our temps.
Good luck on the replacment.

Dell replaced it no questions asked within a week of emailing them. Noise is gone now. Just ordered the ATI Silencer 4.

Good to hear such pleasant replacement and all in a decent turnaround time. May your overclock be high and your temps be low. Go now and play much!
