It seems that you SHOULD NOT peel off one side of brown tape on temperature probes. I did so last night and placed bare side of two on cpu heatsink and one on hdd. The results? When pc started, the monitor started beeping like crazy. The two fans just added would keep starting and stopping. After shutting down and checking connections, it settled down and the fans kept running. However, temp readings are not correct. The two probes on the cpu heatsink are reading 57f and 77f at idle. The hdd is 81f (this is the only one that could be right). So, could it be that I shouldn't have two probes on the same heatsink? Tonight I will make some changes. Any suggestions?

That's an affirmative. The plastic is needed to insulate the temp sensors. You can place one of the probes on the north bridge located just below the cpu and consider placing another on one of the torid transformer coils. Those are used in converting the power to the cpu. The north bridge here on the gen1 would actually run hotter than the cpu under unfavorable air flow patterns.

Mine ran about 5 deg. c hotter than the cpu probe I stuck in the bottom fins of the heatsink. I'm waiting untill my extra fans are installed before I finalize a place for the sys probe. Boy, do I love discovering all this stuff!

Hey guys, All I can say is Silverstone makes a good product. After the torture test I put it through, it's working like a champ. OK, here's how I now have things set up:
Luckily, I didn't throw out the brown tape removed last night. I carefully put them back on all the probes and placed the cpu probe on the silver plate that sits on the cpu. The sys probe was placed on the metal bar on the back of the x800. Put there because this bar seems to be right under the gpu chip. The hdd probe is on top of hdd 0.
The fan that works with the cpu probe is in the front fan cradle. The sys fan is mounted externally just above the top exhaust fan.
Present idle readings: cpu 109f. gpu 99f. hdd 102f. How do those temps look to you guys?

I finally took some photos of the black Silverstone Eudemon in my Gen 3 case. I went round-n-round about the black vs. silver faceplate - I really thought the silver one would look better with the Dell "shield", but settled on the black one because I could see that the lcd contrasted better against the black. With my old eyes, I need all the help I can get.

Hey munski, great shots. Just what I expected from a Pro It looks like something is directly behind the front grill, what is that? I'm at work now, so I can't check to see if mine is the same, but I don't remember there being anything blocking air input through there. I changed my readings to celsius to conform to the rest of you. At idle, mine reads the same as yours, 40c. BTW, there is a shot of mine in one of the threads. I think it's in the first "Another new XPS owner". Later

Hey lanraider, Sorry for the accidental photo erasures here, but here's a pic of the Eudemon with the extra Silverstone HDD bracket & my Maxtor 160 HDD put together. The 5.25" bay extension makes for alot more secure install with the green quick release brackets & I like the extra room for the 3rd HDD. I spray stuck some thin Filtrete air cond. filter material on the front grills to help with dust & smoke on the intake - we'll see how much difference it makes. Jeez! I just changed my temps back to F. from C. just so I wouldn't have to keep looking at the celsius wall chart - I'm about 12 centimeters away from going crazy! Oh, wait - that's about 6.2 inches........ Munski

Munski - LOL – I know just how you feel…these kids and their new fangled math. I’ve been thinking about making a conversion chart myself. Did you make your own or did you buy or download one? Great idea for your third hdd. Hope you wont mind if I copy it. But then, 320gigs of space…who would ever need more than that? Sounds like you’re a smoker also. If that’s true, beware the dreaded brown sticky monster. I have a large air cleaner in my computer room, but it’s a loosing cause. Later

lan, Go to; www.metric-conversions.org/tables/celsius-to-fahrenheit-conversion-table.pdfI chopped off the right & left tables since I don't plan to do any cooking or freezing with my computer and highlighted the important #'s. Oh, and yes - for all you smokers out there and people like me who live next to a dirty city - here's a shot of the Filtrete a/c filter fabric I took out of the front intake grill after just 2 weeks!!! At this point I don't care if it slows down the intake air a bit - it's worth it not to worry about coating the inside of my XPS with smoke & dirt. munskiagain

munski,
OMG! Just two weeks! Is it any wonder so many children have asthma now-a-days?
Since I know I'm not going to quit smoking, I think at least once a year, I will pull the heatsinks and give them a good bath. Too bad I can't do the same with my lungs ;D
BTW, thanks for the link.
