Getting a little frustrated here. I'm not sure what it is causing it...BTW my computer is spyware and virus free. The last few times it has happened, the keyboard and mouse get slow to respond (i.e. buttons pushed don't react for a few seconds, numlock light reacts slow, etc) and then it shuts down, just like you yanked the power cord. Thoughts?

Ran some Dell Diagnostics...inconclusive. Updated windows, updated BIOs, and updated my video card driver. Nada. It seems to shut down after playing CS for awhile, so I think it is temperature related. When everything is running full hilt the problem occurs, that is why I believe the diagnostics don't catch it. The diags only test isolated systems, not the system as a whole. I'm learning toward flaky mobo. I've got a call back into support

Lockups during gaming sessions are a different story entirely, especially given the components involved. The heat is most likely the culprit, but thats not to say the mobo's clean either.
Isolate the heat by adding fans, then see if you still get the lockups. Then make deductions on what you find.

T.RoW In my dealings with Dell and getting replacement parts, the nicer soft toned approach worked best. I use my rig for my home office stuff as well and I explained to them the importance of having my computer operable and they seem to offer a more sympathetic ear. I found this to be the case when I had my 9800XT video card replaced; they shipped it overnight so I wouldn’t have any down time. I do agree if they give you the attitude then you must open a can of whoop-ass!

Well, I did add fans from day 1. My system has run fine for many months and now this. So heat may be a mitigating factor in all of this, but adding extra fans beyond the 2 I've added is not an option

After 3 months of running fine, my MB bit the dust. 2 calls to Dell they shipped me a new heatsink & MB & let me install them myself. For a new guy it was pretty easy with the right tools. I'm back up & running & so far everything is quiet, smooth & smokin'. The Dell tech guys were professional all the way & I got the parts 2 days later. I couldn't be happier with the service, & now I really know the XPS Gen3 inside & out. Munski
