Well, I am not in the market at the moment but I was wondering on just how this works.
Now we all know that we cannot change the timings on our memory. I have DDR2 that runs in 4-4-4-11 timings. Since faster DDR2 is coming out that, I was wondering if the ram would actually set to the lower timings or whether it would remain the same.
Any thoughts?

Well, I am not in the market at the moment but I was wondering on just how this works. Now we all know that we cannot change the timings on our memory. I have DDR2 that runs in 4-4-4-11 timings. Since faster DDR2 is coming out that, I was wondering if the ram would actually set to the lower timings or whether it would remain the same. Any thoughts? Run CPUZ, and click the SPD Tab. If you see any information in the SPD Timings tables, then youll have a good idea of what to expect with lower CAS timings. Not having access to FSB, Voltages, timings, and dividers....theres really no point to get lower latency RAM...in theory. For example Lower Latency DDR1(CL2.5) when used in the XPS Gen1/2, causes the RAM to run at 333(CL2.5) and NOT stock 400(CL3). DDR=2x. DDR400 CL.2.5 changes the memory divider to 166mhz or 5/6. Meaning, your memory cant go over 166, unless you crank the FSB up. Now that would be interesting, if using CL2.5(166) and overclocking the FSB to say 240-250 range would get the 166~200-208. Run CPUZ, Take a screenshot of the SPD timings, and post it. Thanks. T.RoW

Your running 2GB at 2T, with the same loose 3-3-8 timings. No access to the bios is all guess work, as usual.

With a gb of the infineon mixed in (which had all the spd timmings) it did in fact default to the 333. I consequently ordered the 2nd gb and replaced the infineon. The infineon went into my son's system and took him to max 1.5 gb in the amd XP system (+3200 asus deluxe-e at800xt aiw 2 80gb wd hdds running in raid 0). I could probably chase down the mem timmings under the different configs. The cosair running at cas 2.5 is still a bit slower that the infineon when running mem benchys.
Naturally ati threw out new vid card drivers today.
