So I still use my XPS a TON and love it =). Well, I just wrote a fresh copyof Windows XP Pro to speed things up and now I am having an odd problem. When I set the computer to sleep, everything does what it is supposed to, but the fans and stuff stay on....odd, eh? The only addition I made was adding a wireless internet adapter. Even when I had the adapter in before recovering, the computer went to sleep correctly. This isn't really that much of a problem, but just something I would like to return back to normal.

Look for state status in bios and set to the appropriate value. There will be like a S1, S2, S3. You can also check in your control panel power for anything else that may be affecting it.

ACPI...cpu fan is on in S0 & S1....off in S3, S4, S5...see Intel's pdf manual (C3176501.pdf) for an explanation of the various states.....mind you...it can all change with the implementation used by the computer manufacturer. Personally mine never sleeps..it's either on or off and stays off on a power failure.....been bit too many times over the years....acpi is susceptable to hardware, software, and driver issues...

Yeah, I am kinda used to just shutting it off now. However, I did read once that 'coldbooting your computer the hardest thing you can put it through' (I doubt he thought much about games). So, I would prefer to use sleep.....still, I didnt ever change things in the BIOS so I dont know why I would need to go and change things now. I think something just went awry when I recovered my hard drive.
