Hello,
been having some problems as of late with my gen3 locking up while playing any games or even running 3d on ATItool. I have tried to reinstall ati video drivers with no luck. I tried omegadrivers.net drivers, and that almost killed my computer (wouldn't boot at all, it eventually booted after about 25+ tries and winxp recovered itself) i'm not quite sure what to do from here and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

1. Run Memtest for 12 hours and see if it reports errors.
2. Do you have adequate airflow for your PC? Is it in an area of your room that gets fresh air easily?
3. What temps do you see/feel during gaming? The exhaust air feel pretty warm?
4. Try taking the CMOS battery out for 5 minutes, and put it back in.
5. Try a Bios Update
6. Run Prime95, SuperPi 32m, and Another CPU heavy program like Boinc ALL at the SAME TIME to stress your CPU and memory.
7. Hows the AC power in your home? Any lags, spikes, etc.. you see during gaming? Lights flicker? Or Central heating turns on, and your PC locks? etc....
Some other Gen3 users may have some more suggestions, but give these a try and report in. Google for Appz location.

check the administrator tools 'computer mangement' and look at the events......you might also look for some crash dump reports.... think they are in C:\Documents and Settings\Ron Boling\Local Settings\Temp here....be under your user moniker instead of mine hehe.... check that the motherboard green power on led being lit for +5vdc.....opening cd/dvd door for +12vdc being present....check the diagnostic indicators/ethernet led lit and or blinking....and by all means bust all the dust bunnies in side there hehe....you can also run the dell diagnostics.....they aren't the best but they are robust..another tack is to try a safe boot and stress it as best you can.....that kills a lot of drivers...glhf

quick update:
i updated the bios (still had a02) and tried some video drivers off of the dell website and it would still lock up. i used ati tool to underclock the card to about 400/400, and it would no longer lock up. the gpu temp runs about 59/60c while underclocked. i already have 3 added case fans and the arctic cooling fan for the video card. is my card going bad or could it be the arctic cooling fan?

ummm somethings probably wrong with u're card... make sure there's no dust in the arctic cooler cuz thats rediculous mine is at 37 *c and thats hot for mine. however there's no airflow in my room.. and mines overclocked.. it could be u're card cuz long as u're fans running on u're artic cooler it's should be cool and quiet

Another update,
just took apart the arctic cooler and it was completley built up with dust where the fan blows air through the heatsink. Cleaned it out as best i could and loaded up ATItool. Temps seem all around about 10c cooler and no lock ups yet. Under load it runs about 54/55c and idle seems around 35/36c, so hopefully that did the trick. thanks for the help.

Contact between the GPU and Heatsink may have caused the issue as well. How much dust we talking? Globs? or Visible but light?

I'd say globs probably. I had to get in there with a q-tip and wipe the dust then vacuum it out. there is still some dust in there, I couldn't get it all.

So my system locked up last night while idle. Tried to reboot with the power button, and I get nothing when it tries to boot, no bios, nothing on my screen at all. Opened it up and fiddled with the video card, made sure connections were good, but I still get nothing when I try to boot. Is my video card dead for good?
