Hi folks new guy here
I have a gen 3 and I am curious about changing psu's. I would like to switch out the 460 watt psu for a 650 watt from an xps 600. Form the schematics I can find they seem very similar. The part numbers are different obviously but does anyone know if they wire up the same?
thanks

No the Gen 3 has a different plug setup to the mother board. I seen an adapter one time but I have no idea what site that it was on.

Have you tried calling up Dell and seeing if they can hook you up? Why the big upgrade?

i have the same problem / question about my Dell XPS Gen 2... i wanted to upgrade from the 460watt (240 max output) Dell standard PSU to the 650watt (500 max output) Dell XPS 600 PSU...
the reason is, videocards (or anything else) that requires more than 240 watts (the max output on the Dell "460" watt PSU) won't function correctly... like the eVGA 7800gs 256 video card that i really want to install, but req's 350watts from the PSU when under load... i've been having a problem using that AGP card... and i'm saddened...
so i called Dell, and asked if i could get a Gen 5 650watt PSU for my Gen 2...

Not right Sir!
I put an EVGA 8800 GTX in my Dell XPS Gen 3 with the 460W psu and it works perfectly!

Yeah, I had an X1900 in my Gen3 and it was just fine, even overclocked.
