Hello, I just got a new xps gen 4. I only purchased 512mb of memory and would like to upgrade to 2 gigs. I would like to get the fastets memory i can get but I'm confused as to what dell supports in terms of memory speeds. Any body have a idea. I'm looking at buying Corsair XMS 2-Pack 512MB PC5400 DDR2 DIMM Memory will this work

Well, I think it will work but it might or might not run to exactly the specs that they are designed to. Because there is no means to check timings and the like in BIOS, you might just be paying for performance you cant use...

It is common for manufacturers to lock in settings. I just unpacked my XPS 4 and I am setting it up with my usual software. It takes about a week to get it tweaked in. I ordered it with 2 GB and located another 2 GB for a total of 4 GB of sweet DDR2 RAM. Windows can't use it all, but other software will. You MUST run this type of memory in sets of two. Notice the bank 1 and 2 set ups. This is directly responsible for speed! If anyone finds the motherboard maker, please share it. Thanks

4 gig of Ram....wow!!! How much difference are you seeing with different software? I would think having that much ram you either do heavy graphics or sound engineering applications.

It lets most programs run in RAM, I do allot of photo graphics work. Not into video yet, this summer. I am looking for a good ditigal video CAM. Any ideas? I just wanted to get it topped off, never had the means to do that before. It felt great to see it post 4 gig.
