I'm having a he*l of a time opening the clamshell case on the GEN 4, the latch on the back seems to be not unlocking at the bottom of the case, near the place for the security lock.. Is there any trick to getting it open? Should case be vertical or laying down.... I'm getting ready to replace the CD-R with a DVD-Burner as well as clean the inside of lint.

It seem to open better laying down, the case seems to flex more when vertical.

Officially, always open the case laying on it's side to prevent case distortion and allow for an easier engagement of all the seams. The clamshell pivots on four pins sliding in plastic insert slots. There are two on top and two on the bottom. One each top and bottom are spring loaded. there are various edges that need to be properly engaged in the tabs when closing the case and sonme anti rf leak strips at the major seams. The latch is just a plastic affair that can get rough and collect dust/dirt. You can try a light grease lubricant on the plastic guides and pins. To gain better access to the latch mechanism you can pop the plastic off. It's documented elsewhere on the site.

The cover is a nightmare to open, had trouble for years trying to open it and actually damaged the case while attempting it over the years.
Finally got it, like someone mentioned, lay it on the floor to the side.

do you guys know how to open a Dell XPS 9100 case? I need to access the back of my motherboard to install Antec Kuhler H2O 620 bracket. Thanks.
