New Gen 5 -- diagnostic lights are dark

Apparently the new Dell Dimension XPS Gen 5 machines, unlike earlier versions, have diagnostic lights which are dark after successful bootup. The topic has been discsussed in the Dell Dimension - General Hardware Forum, in these threads:

(By the way, I thought at first there were no diagnostic lights because there are no small bulbs in view. But they are there-- they are behind a thin membrane which appears at first glance to be solid metal. )
