Hello, I'm knew here first post and I need help. I've read the post that is about the same problem I have but the solution didn't work for me. I've installed two new pioneer dvr alls and I can not get drive e to go to dma mode it stay in pio. When I reboot I get an error that device 5 is unknown and in safe mode device 5 is unknown. I've swapped the ata66 cable out, swapped drive positions(this is weird the drive designation in my computer moves with the drive, though primary would stay at the end of the cable),swapped jumpers around(master/slave&cable select), and I've even hooked drive e up by its self at the end cable position. I expected it to become drive d on reboot not the case it showed up as drive e. I'm totally lost, I've tried the dell forum to avail please help. m71b

You need an ata133 cable instead of the ata66. But in the meantime, power the system off.....configure the drives as you want them to be with the jumpers set as master (located at the end of the cable) and slave (located in the middle of the cable), pull the ac power cord for the computer and leave it disconnected a short time....upon powering up go to bios and drive display to see if the drives detect correctly. If everything checks out then work on the dma issue. If it doesn't, you can try a redetect on windows and/or a clear cmos.

Hello, i have an ata133 cable and I tried everything you suggested,no luck. When I do a reboot the computer says it can find drive 5(e) and gives the option to continue or bios setup.Pata 5 is on but devise unknown, when the computer finishes booting up I get a message to insert the virtual truck CD to finish set up(lost here). When everything is up i can go to my computer and i have drive E an the properties show manufacture and model, but in devise manger drive E pio mode only. Thanks . Hello just to update my problem is most likely in the a04 bios. The computer sees the pioneer dvr a11 at the end of the ide cable but, will not on the middle connector. The original nec drive is seen in the bios which lets me have dma modes but for some reason it doesn't like the pioneer.I had a service tech come out and change the motherboard,no help,it seems to be a bios issue not software.
