So I finally have the case and motherboard for a Gen 5. I'm the process of picking out a CPU. Dell told me they only put up to the 840s, but numerous people have said they were able to get Pentium D 950 and 960 chips to work fine. The EE though they weren't able to get up to it's 3.73ghz. It seems like it won't go above 3.2 with the Gen 5 because of the bios. The motherboard came with A01 bios from what I'm guessing because it's a new mobo and says A01 on it. I heard that the A04 bios update was let the motherboard all for the 950 and 950 to be used. This is my problem. If I buy a 950 or 960 CPU and install it on the motherboard with al the rest of the guts of the computer, will it turn on, run, and let me flash the bios up to A04? Or.. Will I not be able to use the computer with the 950 or 960 until after I've flashed the bios up to A04 from A01. Will I have to use an older processor like the 840 to get into the computer to do the upgrade or will the 950 at least work somewhat until i upgradr the BIOS? HELP!

Dell XPS Gen5 Processor Compatibility:
I do have the same case. I do have a brand new case from ebay. It does not come with a MB. I just bouught a new MB, the original for XPS Gen5. Before that I was thinking buying ASUS Rampage Extreme.
Need to know if I cam put a Pentium D Extreme 3.73 4M 1066 into the original MB, or a Pentium 3.8 775 2M 800. Also I am thinking on the Rampage Extreme MB.
The key question is if on the XPS Gen5 plate, will it be possible to attach the ASUS Rampage MB.
This is my first post...Thanks!
