I have had the new Gen 600 for about a week now. Been having some strange locking up problems that result in a "hard start".
After playing BF2 for a long time it will lock up when I am logging out of the game. This has happened about 4 times. I also locked up once in WoW. The lock ups are not lead up to by anything like lag, it just happens out of nowhere. Screen just freezes.
Anyone else have a similar problem with this or any of the Gens.

Welcome to the Forums!
Lockups could be heat, power, driver, program, etc...related. Factor in a Intel CPU and NForce4 Sli chipset, and theres no telling what could be wrong.
It could very well be heat related, but with out more information(see sticky), theres no way to make an informed decision.

Thanks for the welcome.
Im fairly sure that it is Video Driver related, as I crashed to Blue Screen last night with a stop error related to N4_disp. I downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver (old 77.52 to new 78.01). This however made things worse. DLing this Driver made my desktop resolution look stretched and gave me perfect, dark green lines horizontally and vertically across the screen, but only while playing BF2. So I did a system restore and called it a night. More messing with it tonight.
Thanks again guys, Brigham

I would try running Driver cleaner Pro to make sure you dont have anything by default that could be causing a conflict. Run the utility(Driver Cleaner Pro) in Safe mode.
Keep us posted on what methods you try, as others are sure to have similar issues.

Thanks for the response.
Couple questions for ya.
First one is a real n00b question: Is Driver Cleaner Pro software that I need to DL (if so, where might I get that) or is it standard on windows?
Second, Do you think the out of date drivers I have are causing it or is the driver version (77.52) I have fine? If not, should I DL the newest drivers then run cleaner or run cleaner then DL new drivers or just run cleaner?
Drivers scare me. Everytime I start messing with Drivers I screw something up.
For those people that may be having similar problems, here is exactly what has happened:
1. Numerous (3-4) Blue Screen Crashes - all stop errors regarding the NV4_disp (driver related error).
2. System Freeze in WoW - not related to lag or connection, just a full lock up.
3. Lock up while logging out of BF2 - after I click "quit" the screen is black and music is always stuck in a loop (a split second of music will play over and over).
4. Once, I crashed to a pink screen - I read this is also a driver error.
*Keep in mind that I have had this machine for about a week and my personal modifications have been minimal.
Thanks again guys, Brigham

if anything you could wait for the 81.26 drivers, but who knows how long it will be before its released.
there's beta versions out, but i wouldn't recommend trying them
edit: when installing new drivers make sure you uninstall the old one before installing the new one

Download Driver Cleaner Pro from here(Scroll down to very bottom) 1. Install Driver Cleaner Pro 2. Uninstall your drivers using Add/Remove Programs in XP. 3. Restart into Safe Mode (F8 during boot up) 4. Run Driver Cleaner for "Nvidia" and "Nvidia WDM" 5. Restart and Install new Drivers. ------------------------ Its a long shot, but its worth a shot.

That's gotta be a driver related issue, brigham. I wish I could help you but my new xps 600 was built today and it wont arrive until monday.
Anyway, I read something about nvidia drivers and battlefield 2 not being completely compatible. Although you said it happens when you play WoW too. So that's kinda weird, tbh. According to nvidia, they fixed a couple of bugs in their newest driver realease but it looks like in your case it made things worst. You should prolly contact nvidia and ask them what driver version you should download to fix the issue. Sometimes new drivers are not necessarily better than older versions.

Hi again,
It only locked up once with WoW, so until it happens again I am writing that off as a WoW related prob (on their end).
BF2 it happens regularly after I have played for a lengthy amount of time.
All this isn’t to say that it isn’t a fantastic machine. 95% of the time it's problem free and flys like the wind. Overall I am very happy with it and I can’t really blame a driver prob on the machine.
I just dont want rcdjl to worry about his new machine. It's a beast. A buddy of mine ordered the same one when I did and he is problem free and loving his new 600.
So, where can I get this Driver Cleaner Pro?
Thanks, Brigham

I tried everything mentioned to no avail. Finally called Dell and they are coming out this Sat to replace both 7800s. Hopefully that will fix the prob. Thanks for all the advice guys, I will let you know what happens from here.

brigham I finally got my system last friday. It OWNS!!! It's so quiet you have no idea (actually you do ;D )
Anyway, I haven't had any major problems yet. The only problem so far happens when refreshing the servers list in my favorite game, Enemy Teritory. It gets choppy or the animations are in slow motion. I really don't know why it happens. It could be a driver related issue. That's just my guess. The system came with the 77.52 version installed. There's a new version that was released early this month (78.01) and to be honest with you I'm afraid of upgrading the nvidia drivers.
Other than that this system rocks. I don't know how to use the SLI feature when playing Enemy Territory though. I'll figure it out.
brigham I hope you get your computer fixed. If not then you should ask DELL for an exchange system.

Grats on the system man!! Seriously these systems are bad ass! I just got unlucky. Hopefully the replacement cards will do the trick.
DONT UPDATE TO 78.01....thats just my advice. Wait for the new drivers coming soon. Every problem I had got worse when I got 78.01 drivers and I had to do a sys restore to get rid of em.
As for the SLI...you can enable or disable that in your video card settings (right-click on desktop>properties>settings>advanced>GTX7800). It ships enabled so you should not have to mess with it. But it is easy to set up and disable.
Well, good luck man I think you will really be happy with it.
Post your specs.....I wanna see what you went for!!
Thanks, Brigham

Heh, my system is not as good as yours brigham because of the processor. Dell XPS 600 - Pentium 4 HT 3.4 GHZ - 2 x nVidia 7800 GTX SLI - 1 GB DDR2 @ 667 MHZ ram - 80 GB Western Digital Raptor @ 10000 rpm I plan to upgrade to a better processor but not untill next year. I'm broke at the moment ;D. Untill then I'll have to deal with this processor which by the way limits the power of my 7800 GTX video cards. See ya
