Hi, I'm new here and new to an XPS machine. I'm having some pretty bad problems for a brand new machine. I play Call of Duty 2 for about 20 minutes and it freezes on me. I have the new Intel 955 EE chip, which has been taken off Dell's website for some reason. The freezing happens consistently. I updated the 7800 GTX (SLI) drivers, updated COD2 and updated the chipset drivers. Its still happening. My GPU temps after the reboot from the freeze are 64 deg and 57 deg. Any ideas?

does it crash with a BSOD? and give an error for nv4? If you have 2 7800's take one of them out? If it still happens swap them..I've had the same issue and it looks like there's a problem with these cards..several other people also needed their cards replaced..

I get the following error in my event viewer:
"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: nvraid"

are you running raid? not from the looks of it as otherwise hard drive wouldn't boot but I could be wrong..could be just a red herring..try removing one of your 7800's if you have 2 of them in SLI and play COD2 for a while

Give that Dell XPS special tech support a call. Being a new machine it's still in the warranty period. If necessary they will even replace the system.

Yea, i'm in the process of doin that. Its so hard cuz they give u the run around . . . so frustrating, and I only have 3 days left for the 21 day return policy. I think that there are issues with the first shipment of the 900 series processors, and I'm concerned that I'll get another defective machine as a replacement.

It sounds as if you may have gotten the issue due to the driver updates you did. There's a restore back to day ONE on the newer Dells. Likely that will be the first thing they have you do, so be sure to back up anything of any importance.

But this did happen from Day 1 configuration . . . it also froze in the bios/windows load screen if i restarted it immediately. Anyway, a new machine is being built.

Are they going to send you a replacement? With same configuration? I am very interest to hear about your exchange with Dell. Please keep us posted, please.
I am still waiting for my 955EE XPS600 since 1/23 with 3 delays.
Thanks in advance!

I'd say be happy about the delays or you'd be in the same position as me. In fact, i'm hoping my new order will be delayed since that probably means theyre working out the kinks and getting a shipment of updated chips. But only time will tell.

My computer order is finally making progress after 3 delays.
I have same chip, 955EE, and same 7800GTX SLi set up. I already bought CoD 2 so, I'll let you know when I get a chance to play.
Hope your replacement process is going well.

Good to know it made progress. Mine made progress as well, very quickly. It was processed and built in 2 days, and will be here on the 3rd day. Wow . . . let me know how your gameplay is and if you have the same problem.

Mine too, the new one. They updated the BIOS on the new one with A06 which fixes freezing problems with the 1066 MHz FSB. That was most likely my problem.

I was reading the boards over at the Dell forum today. It seems from what I gather it might be a problem with the nVidia mobo they started using.
Also Maxtor drives might be more susceptible to this.
