Hello all,
Im new here and i thought the best place to get some solid advice from the members here. In 2007 i bought a new XPS 710 pc direct from dell. The spec is as follows:
VISTA HOME PREM 32 - BIT
INTEL CORE QUAD CPU - 2.40GHz 2.39GHz
4.00GB RAM
GRAPHICS - NVIDEA 8800GTX
SOUNDBLASTER X-FI.
Im now thinking about upgrading / changing to a new pc and would like to know what the thoughts about this are. First, for a new xps 8300, after ive customised it, is setting me back about 1500-1700 pounds, a little steep imo, considering im not a hard core gamer, i just like the best unit to have around for the bits and pieces i do on my pc.
Second option is to keep my xps 710, upgrade the operating system to the new windows 7 with 64 BIT. I feel strongly about this because my understanding is that dell should have included a 64-bit op in my unit when i bought it away back then, because as it stands, the extra memory was no use at all with a 32-bit op. So upgrading the op to 64 would be the first option, what do you guys think , would this be a considerable improvement in the performance department ??
Ive also been using a very poor monitor with this system which i purchased seperately, im looking to upgrade to dells ultra sharp 24inch, will this bring out the best in the onboard graphics card i have, because my understanding is, this card was one of the best back in the day.
The warranty is expired on this system, so far its been reliable, but has dell got parts to upgrade / replace faulty components / hardware etc on this unit, if it starts to give issues ?
So that is my situation. Dont get me wrong, like some people, id love to get a big box of goodies with a shiny new xps 8300, but times are tough and so the prudent approach wont go amiss here.
I paid close to 1500 quid for this when i bought it, and i havent been doing a lot with it, other than everyday non gaming use, so i feel a lot of potential is still left in my unit. Please advise asap , as id like to order either a new pc OR a new OP sometime next week.
Thank you all.
