What is a ping rate for a MP game played on the internet? Is higher the better?

no lower the better.. the lower you are the closer to the host/ better connectiong you have to him so less lag

Ive heard people say that, "100 ping is ok" or "I dont notice the lag with 100+ pings."
100 Ping is ok for people who play RTS, and RPG's. Games like WoW, Guildwars, etc...
If you play BF2, UT2004, CS.S then the closer to 0 ping you can get, the better off you are. Your client will update more efficiently with less lag spikes when flying planes/heli's.
Plus, a low ping gives your client the upper hand when you register hitbox shots, because you are uploading/registering hits before their client can upload to show they shot you. HUGE advantage in FPS's.

i say more or less the closer you are to zero the better but it can very by game and people a game of 6 people in halo ( i use it because I`ve set up the server before) 100 plus ping is fine but with 16 people you want between 25 to 50 ping a game the less is generally better plus people won`t get angry at you for lagging there game. Its a little different per game let experience be your guide to what makes good speed and what doesn`t
