Hello all, new to forum. Im sort of reposting this topic from another forum .. to see if you guys can help me. And help others with same problem.
I have reciently upgraded my cpu as well. I first ordered a Q9400 (recommended by Dell Techs). I received it. I installed it, and the same exact thing. Loud 100% fan, and the fast message saying processor not supported by this system. I also ran everest on my system. It shows everything is working. So, then I contacted Dell (Indian America Tec support) Dont even try to talk to them on the phone.. its useless. I got so fed up with them I asked to speak to someone that knew what a computer was and spoke english.. Anyway, after talking to several techs.. One told me that that chip wasnt supported by my system. So, she recommended another chip. the Q9550. Well.. of corse more expensive, but what the hell, Im up for an faster chip. So, I get the Q9550 chip yesterday. I decided to talk to another Dell Tech before installing it, to tripple check that this chip is a supported upgrade fotr my system. And of corse.. yes yes it is. I decided to do the chat this time cause I cant stand to try to translate english while troubleshooting.
Anyway, so I put the Q9550 in.. guess what? same exact thing!!! Ive heard of people having this problem in other forums with E8500, Q9400, Q9550 or others.. Dell is swearing by upgrading components and have not done any research or testing to see if it does. the Techs that you actually talk to at Dell are idiots
Everything seems to be working fine. If I could just put a silencer on my computer case.. Or maybe try another after market software for controlling fan speeds.
It may have something to do with the 45nm chip and the 680i motherboard, which is what is in mine. The Q9400 and Q9550 are both 45mn chips I believe. This information is from a few forums I have read. Several people say that the 680i Mobo does not support the 45mn chips.
I wouldnt think it would run if that were the case. They also said it wouldnt support up to 1333 MHZ either.. But my system is reading that, even the bios is. so, I dont know ??
I hope someone finds something. I dont want to send another CPU back. Id like to keep the one I have. Just shush it a lot!!
