A Popular Program for Monitoring the XPS's Temps using the built in Adm1027 Chips is: MotherBoard Monitor 5.3.7.0 www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311This Version Supports Dell XPS and Dell XPS WHL, Which are the Same Configs, and Both WILL Work. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To Install: Use the Wizard, Choose the Dell XPS Config for your Board, and That Should do it. *Note DO NOT UNINSTALL MBM, This WILL cause .ini conflicts and can be troublesome to correct if unfamaliar with Re-Install Process. *Note: You Do NOT have to Uninstall Previous Versions of MBM if Installing v.5.3.7.0. ======================================= Mbm Settings>>>>Temperatures Tab>>>>Visual Tab..... This Post is how I made my way here. Some idiot on the DCF tried to say that Dell XPS had NO way to Monitor Temps/Fan speeds.
Ive been finding a LOT of useless information there. DCF? Dumb Computer F#$@. Thats what it means to me.

Thanks TRow. You gave me the answer I was looking for in the DCF. As suggested I changed sensor 1-3 now I know what the temps belong to. It has raised one question though, my memory temp says -128 deg C. I've checked and rechecked the settings but I can't find the prob. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

There is a remote possiblilty that your temp probe is bad. Motherboard temp probes have allways been known to be less than stellar performers.

Thats definately a pretty good possibility, but just in case...I posted a thread on MBM's forums and asked around a bit. I tinkered with my own settings and couldn't isolate the problem. So it may well be hardware side. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You could try: Updating to the Latest Version 5.3.7.0 if your using 5.3.6.0(Im using 5.3.6.0.) 5.3.7.0 is really only updating MBM for the newer 64bit chips. www.okraft.nu/3d-egs/dwl/MBM5370.EXE- -OR- - Get a Fan Controller with Temp Probes, like HDD cooler/ Fan Controller and Place a Probe directly on the DDR Modules..... THen you Could Install a 92mm Fan in the HDD Cage since it's empty! Because you could move your HDD to the 5.25 Bays inside the HDD/Fan Controller. And If your Fan was Tt Smart Fan it would light up your Front Shield Quite Nicely ;D. Installing the Fan in the HDD Cage would only Require 4 Cable ties too. EZ Cheap Mod, and the 92mm Fan would blow directly over your CPU TOO! And you could control it off your Fan controller......Sorry I got off on a tangent. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I would say Uninstall Mbm, BUT DO NOT Recommend it for it can be a nightmare to reinstall if your unfamiliar with MBM's Reinstall process. I don't know if Dell would replace the Mobo or not, but given it is used to detect excess heat, and it's possibly malfunctioning.... Its worth a call to XPS support to find out. ======================================= We should have some more info for you soon. But I agree with Dano104 given the -128c temperature reading and the inaccuracy of temp probes. T.RoW * I might look into the HDD Cooler/Fan controller....Two 92mm Tt Smart Fans for Intake would be schweet.

"127 means no input to that sensor, so nothing to worry about" -Response from Alex Van Kaam MBMonitor Creator ======================================= That was his response to the question I posted, I assume(should never assume)that he means the sensor's malfunctioned.

whoa slow down guys! Contact Dell? Replace mobo? That's no easy feat! lol Last time I did that there was a major language barrier, ended up doing it myself?
Seriously, you think the sensor might be gone? Any way to verify that before I spend two hrs on the phone with a tech telling them that their hardware is shot with only a temp read out to prove it?
btw I'm shopping for some fans today, gonna do stage 1 & 2 maybe 3 and the zalman heatpipe for the 9800xt. I'd like to get a fan controller but space is limited. I have a dvd rom, cd burn and in the near future a dvd burn. I'd like to keep the cd burn at that point 'cause the're so much faster than the dvd/cd burners. Well thats my tangent. Great info for the mods trow. Appreciate the help guys.

whoa slow down guys! Contact Dell? Replace mobo? That's no easy feat! lol Last time I did that there was a major language barrier, ended up doing it myself? I was just trying to cover all the bases "if" this sensor was an issue for you. Personally, if MY XPS came with a dead sensor and was under warranty, Im getting a New Mobo. You Paid 2 grand+ for a PC that isn't working properly. Plus taking the XPS apart is so much fun, and its SO easy. I compare this sensor issue to buying a brand new car, and the Stereo System doesn't work. Probably won't effect the performance of the car....but you have components that are not working properly. Its the principle, one you will have to deal with for the Rest of the XPS's life. Notice the suggestion was at the bottom? I like the HDD/Cooler-Fan Controller Idea....Thats fun too. But...The XPS is fun to take apart, especially if your new to the game, its a good way to learn something new about yourself, and your PC. Try Stage 3, youll see. Good Luck! Post any questions you have on mod'n too! Let us know what EXACT fans your getting as well. T.RoW

Try this:
Uninstall MBM.
Erase the ENTIRE Folder and Path Name(Thru My Computer): C:/Program Files/MotherBoard Monitor 5
Restart PC.
Reinstall MBM using 5.3.7.0.
See if that works. Let us know.

as of now, there is no software means to check your temperature. if you want to, it looks like youll have to buy a hardware temp monitor (like the hardcano 12 or aerogate)

Go back to the 6.0 version of mbm5. I posted the misdefined sensors in version 7.0 to the mbm5 site along with all the information I had. After a few weeks the only thing I got officially was the announcement of the termination of the mbm5 project.

I thought they sent out a third party to fix your equipment. If thats the case, I dont think the certified tech is gonna squeal. If you have to send it in, that shipping is going to be horrible.... best of luck

I guess it's a good time to update this on my end.
Dell tech support had this to say about the -128 deg reading, "We do not recognize or support Mbm."
Thats it, their own program for error checking the hardware reports no probs. So whats a Dell owner who spent 4 grand on his puter going to do?
rumpleph1sh maybe you will get better results then me, maybe I could've been more aggressive.

No sensor installed for that input is totally possible. Have you verified the chip as being an adm1027? If so you can dl the manual and look at the traces to the chip for that specific input. On the gen1 here it appeared to run to a sensor mounted near the top of the memory sockets. The mbm5 and specific models it works with was/is a compilation of input (users & manufacturers) which allowed for an mbm configuration. I also happened to notice the fans on the gen3 use 4 wires. That implys a pulse width modulation which leads to the possibillity of there being a different chip. Last but not least.....yes you get to dig deep n weep to gain the knowledge you seek.
