I got mine on the 28th... I'm loving it. Does anyone else have one or is this message board really sparse?

Welcome to the Forums.
Whats the specs on your machine? Did you get a X850XT?
Please run some benchmarks tests, and post the compare URL for a testbed.
Thanks, and Welcome to the Forums!

The Gen4s are incredibly rare, as far as I know. Most people that bought a gen3 with me were doing so for school. Because the gen4 was released at the end of the year, I don't think many people have one yet.
This is the technical issue board, too, so unless people are having problems they wont typically post here. Your welcome to post with the rest of us in all the other forums and we encourage you to do so. BTW -- Thanks for the raid 0 info in the other forum, that is quite a useful tidbit =D

Only issue I've had so far is an annoying whine with one of the fans when it revs up slightly. Need to crack it open and see who the offender is.

Zefram that's an awsome machine you have there! Do you get a lot of loud, high rpm fan noise when playing games? The Gen3 is terrible when it comes to the fan noise (stock fans). Could you post some pic's of it's interior showing the fan layout and heatsink? I'm curious to see if DELL has "corrected" the problem with the new Gen4 model.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have a camera to post pictures. But I can tell you that the noise isn't that bad. I barely notice it and I leave it on at night and can sleep soundly. The machine is about 5-6 feet away from my bed and it's barely audible. While playing games (Doom 3, Ghost Recon, HL mods), the noise is fine too. It's certainly audible but with my headphones on I don't hear it.
I wish I had actual numbers but I don't have a meter.

I just purchased one (almost fully loaded). Dell originally recommended a Xeon processor (470) with a SCSI Raid Drive (15,000 rpms) but the dang thing kept hanging up. I was going to look to another vendor when the XPS Gen4 caught my eye. The one I ordered is 3.8 ghz with an 800 FSB; 74GB serial ATA hd (10,000 rpm's); 2gb of DDR2 SDRAM at 533 MHz; a 256 mb ATI Radeon X850 XT video card; 16x DVD-ROM and dual layer DVD+/-RW; wireless ethernet; 2001 FP ultrasharp Flat Panel Display; Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS THX certified sound card and a bunch of misc. software. When I purchased they advertised the system for 20% off and threw in the ultrasharp monitor so I think I got a good deal. Unfortunately, the "sale" was only on 2 days. It also has a 4 year support agreement with on-site service. I'm just hoping it doesn't hang up like the Xeon processor with the raid drive. Will let you know what I think after I get it and run it through my routines.

It's too bad the X850 only has ONE DVI connector... instead of TWO, like the normal Ati X850s. Other than that... I'm happy. Hey Zefram--nice system!!! I just rec'd my Gen4 this past monday. I fully expected the 2xDVI version of the X850XT to drive my dual 1905FPs. I didn't notice the DVI/VGA/TV-out disclaimer on the 'Help me choose' pop-up during customize; rather after I rec'd the box. The 2xDVI version was the only version that appears in the online reviews, eBay, etc. I spent three days and over six hours on the phone with (seems like) every department in Dell and FINALLY, after being ready to send the system back; they are sending the retail/box 2xDVI version to me at no addt'l cost. there was so much resistance because they don't stock the OEM 2xDVi, just the retail box; so they probably ate into the system margin to make me stop calling. It was truly painful. This is my first Dell and the depth of Dell support (TechSpt, CustCare, Sales, etc) was disappointing. Other than that, I love it! It's fast, quiet, and the 2x19LCDs set for horizontal-span are outrageous. Check into the ATI Catalyst Control Center if you haven't already. I'd like to find a thermal/fan monitoring program that works with the Dell/X925XE motherboard. Looks like MBM isn't there yet or the MB probes aren't accessible. If anyone gets monitoring to work for Gen4, pls advise. TRow: great forum! glad to have found it...
